During his more than three decades in education, Tim Matheney has led schools, districts and organizations to achieve outstanding results. As Superintendent of Schools in South Portland, Maine, he led the district's efforts in significantly reducing chronic student absenteeism and increasing SAT scores.
He delivered best-in-class professional development as the founding executive director of the Philadelphia Academy of School Leaders.
Tim also served as the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE)'s Chief Intervention Officer, overseeing the improvement of 14 at-risk school districts with 135,000 students.
Tim was the NJDOE's first Director of Educator Evaluation where he led the implementation of the TEACH NJ Act, New Jersey's landmark tenure reform legislation.
From 2004-2012, Tim served as a principal of South Brunswick High School which, under his leadership, was designated a National School of Character and named as one of "America's Best High Schools" by Newsweek.
In 2017 he founded SPIRE Education and Leadership providing outstanding consulting services to schools, districts, and non-profit organizations.
Tim graduated from Princeton University cum laude and earned his graduate degree in educational administration and policy from the University of Michigan.
